The rib engobe is a product that has been used for decades in the ceramics industry to prevent contamination of the ceramic kiln rollers, caused by the direct contact of the tile during firing process.
This direct contact contaminates the kiln ceramic rollers with glaze, producing glaze rings in the rollers which produce:
• Deformations in the ceramic tile causing irregular curvatures (incorrect planarities).
• Stacking of tiles inside the kiln, triggering the break of ceramic rollers due to the weight of tiles, producing a “barraca” (A back up of tiles).
In the market there are different kinds of engobe “ribbing” machines but they are not effective since they do not uniformly cover the bottom of the tile in its totality and this sometimes contaminates the top of tiles causing casualities and problems in production.
An incorrect application of engobe rib, incurs huge expenses for a company, entailing a stop in production and resulting in a need for maintenance in the kiln, having to clean or change the kiln ceramic rollers.
